Visiting Rules

REMEMBER!

Reserve is a specially protected natural area of federal significance!

Passage through the reserve is allowed only with the permission of the management.

In the field the boundary of the reserve is marked with border posts painted in the colors of the Russian flag, located within the range of vision, there are also auto barriers and points of information on the roads.

The Kerzhenets River, including the thirty three kilometers of the reserve's boundary, is available for canoeing and sailing on NON-MOTORIZED small floating craft. It is prohibited to dock on the LEFT bank of the Kerzhenets River in the Kerzhensky State Nature Biosphere Reserve. Sailing on motorized floating craft on the Kerzhenets River is PROHIBITED in accordance with paragraph 2.2.1. of the Rules for the Use of Water Vessels for Navigation on Small Craft in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, approved by the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region No. 9 of January 15, 2010.

VISITING THE RESERVE

If a permit (pass or ticket) is available, the following categories of visitors are allowed to enter the Limited Economic Activity Area:

  • Residents permanently living in the town of Rustai pursuant to an order;
  • Individuals for educational tourism (if they have a ticket) and excursion groups accompanied by an employee of the reserve on equipped paths;
  • Residents of the village of Lykovo and the village of Osinka for a transit.

All other visitors must obtain a special permit from the Management Board to visit the reserve.

GUIDED TOURS

On the basis of the Environmental Centre of the reserve in the town of Rustai, educational events and guided tours are held in the Environmental Centre and along the hiking trails upon preliminary request.

The Kerzhensky State Nature Reserve charges a fee for individuals to visit for the purpose of educational tourism.

To do this, you need to apply to the Environmental Centre at 17, Oktyabrskaya St., Rustai, to be instructed, to get a guidebook, and to pay the cost of visiting for the purpose of educational tourism in the amount of 50 rubles for adults, 25 rubles for children aged 12-18 years and retirees, children under 12 years for free.

In the time of high fire hazard, visiting the reserve is allowed only accompanied by a guide.

HOW TO APPLY FOR A TOUR?

You can get detailed information about the events and apply for a visit from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily by calling +7 831 593-92-30 (Environmental Education Department) and +7 920 077-28-31. The application must be confirmed by phone within 1-2 days prior to arrival. In case of making changes to the application (date of arrival, number of people, etc.), please inform the Environmental Education Department immediately.

In Rustai town, only Rostelecom and MegaFon are working among cellular operators. If you want to be in touch, you should buy a SIM card of any of them.

VISITOR FEE

Since May 1, 2017, the Kerzhensky State Nature Reserve charges a fee for visiting the territory by individuals for the purpose of educational tourism.

The right to visit the Kerzhensky State Nature Reserve free of charge have the following preferential categories of citizens:

  • children under 12 years of age;
  • disabled persons of I and II groups, as well as persons accompanying disabled persons of I group (III degree of limitation of ability to work) and disabled children;
  • veterans of all categories established by Federal Law No. 5-FL of 12 January 2005 "On Veterans";
  • Heroes of the Soviet Union, Heroes of Russia;
  • residents of the reserve and their close relatives, such as spouse, parents, children, adoptive parents, adoptees, full and half-blooded siblings, grandfathers, grandmothers, grandchildren, tutors, guardians, wards;
  • residents of the settlements surrounded by the boundaries of the reserve and their close relatives, such as spouse, parents, children, adoptive parents, adoptees, full and half-blooded siblings, grandfathers, grandmothers, grandchildren, tutors, guardians, wards;
  • volunteers arriving to the reserve as part of the contractual relationship with the reserve.

Persons for whom the fee for visiting the reserve is 50% of the established fee:

  • retirees;
  • disabled persons of the III group;
  • large families with three or more children under the age of 16;

students of educational institutions of general and secondary vocational education over 12 years of age.
